Frequently Asked Questions

What is a virtual career fair? A virtual career fair provides a way for candidates and organizations to connect online during a time-limited event. Each organization will have a virtual "booth" that they can customize with links, videos, social media, logos, and job postings. Candidates can view an employer's booth to learn more about the organization and their hiring needs. Candidates and recruiters can communicate via a text-based chat or video chat.

What platform is the Career Center using for the career fair? Premier Virtual, a career fair platform that offers visual booths, video chat, and text-based chat.

How will I communicate with recruiters? All conversations begin as a text-based chat using the platform's built-in chat box. When you're "in" an organization's booth (as in, you clicked on the button for that organization), you can start a chat with a recruiter - or, a recruiter can begin a chat with you. Some recruiters may ask you to move to a video chat.

Who may attend? Any job seeker may attend this event. The event is targeted at current college students and candidates with college degrees.

Do I need to register or RSVP? Yes, all candidates must register in order to participate in the fair. Register here. Registration questions: name, email, phone, major/program of study, college/university, preferred pronouns, resume upload (PDF only).

What is the cost? There is no cost for candidates to attend the event.

What organizations will be there? The list of employers and graduate programs participating in the fair is available here (and on this page above). It is updated in real-time as organizations register (and cancel); organizations will continue to register until the week of the event. You can use the list to search for organizations by name or use the Advanced Search for more options (including the ability to search by major, work authorization level, etc.). On the list of employers above, use the filter button to find employers by position type, major, and other fields.

What do I need to do to participate in the fair? You need to register for the fair and upload a resume in PDF format. You can participate in the fair from any device that has browser access (laptop, desktop, mobile device, tablet). Google Chrome is recommended.

What is the dress code? Some organizations will invite candidates to video chat, so we recommend that you dress professionally. While suits are encouraged, you can dress in business professional or business casual clothing. Professional dress includes collared shirts, dress pants/slacks, dresses, skirts, polo shirts, blazers, button-up shirts, blouses, and dress shoes.

Is the career fair accessibility for individuals with disabilities? Yes, Premier Virtual meets the (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. The site offers screen reader and keyboard navigation optimization, supports disability profiles (epilepsy safe, visually impaired cognitive disability, ADHD-friendly, blind users, keyboard navigation, etc.). Users can make font and color adjustments. User can access accessibility features by clicking on the round accessibility icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. If you have questions or concerns about the accessibility of the fair platform, we encourage you to reach out to us - contact Brooke Brown at brooke.brown@uncc.edu or 704-687-0789.

How can I identify organizations that are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion? This year, we have asked employers to provide information on any affinity groups at their organization. Affinity groups bring people together who have common identities, interests, or goals. On the list of employers registered (above on this page), we've included the "affinity group" field for any organization that provided that information. Checking out an organization's affinity groups is one way to begin to get insight into a company's diversity. Students who want to talk about more ways to identify employers that are a good fit for them are encouraged to schedule a career coaching appointment.

Which organizations will receive my information? How is the information shared? Organizations will be able to see your name, email, phone, major, college, and preferred pronouns (information from the event registration form) - both during and after the event - if you visit their booth or apply for a position. Organizations whose booths you visit can also see how you interacted with their booth - which links you clicked on and whether you started a chat session. If you don't visit an organization's booth, that organization will not have access to your information through the career fair. You can edit your profile information (including uploading a new resume) at any time by logging into the Premier Virtual account you created when registering for the fair. As event coordinators, the Career Center will have access to the information from your profile, the number of booths you visited, and the names of the booths you visited.
