Career fair focused on teaching and other opportunities in education. Open to all majors; 30+ schools/school districts are hiring non-Education majors for teaching jobs. 50+ organizations, including school districts, charter schools, private schools, nonprofit organizations, professional associations, and graduate programs. Only open to UNC Charlotte students and alumni (because of the way the virtual career fair system works).

Fair sponsor: York Preparatory Academy - located in Rock Hill, York Prep seeks creative, collaborative educators to join their team; salaries begin at $43,500 and full-time coaches support teachers throughout the year.

How the virtual fair works

Students will view the list of participating school staff online; each staff member who is logged into the virtual fair will have a "Live Chat" button next to their information. Clicking on the button will connect you to that staff member, and you can chat live with them. The virtual fair gives you the opportunity to learn more about schools/districts to assess you fit with them, get advice from principals, and learn about the hiring and interview process

Key info about the event

  • Candidates don't need to be available for the entire timeframe of the event
  • Candidates just need internet access to participate in the event - no download is required
  • This is a live text-based chat; no video camera or microphone are required
  • Candidates initiate conversations with school staff; school staff don't have access to see which candidates are online
  • Candidates can talk with multiple staff at the same time (through individual chats)
  • While the event is from 10am to 12pm, the live chat will be open from 9am to 1pm
  • The virtual career fair system doesn't have a built in way for candidates to share resumes, so school staff may request that you email them your resume
  • If you have additional questions about the event now - or if you experience technical issues the day of the fair - contact us at careerfairs@uncc.edu or 704-687-0789

Sample Questions

To help candidates prepare for the event, we're providing some sample questions that they could ask school staff, although we will encourage them to create their own questions. Here are the questions we're sharing with them:

Ideas for questions to ask:

To any school staff member:

- What do you enjoy best about working for [school/district]?

- What do you think it takes to be successful at your [school/district]?

- Could you tell me about the interview process for teaching candidates?

- What are some of the characteristics that would make a teacher candidate a good fit for your school?

To ask school-based personnel (principals, assistant principals, teachers):

- What are you looking for in a new teacher?

- Do you expect to have openings in [grade level, subject] for the Fall?

- How does your school support beginning teachers?

- What are some key characteristics of a teacher at your school who really excels at their work?

- Could you share a success your school has had in handling recent COVID-19-related changes to schools?

To ask human resources staff (recruiters, Directors of Human Resources, HR Coordinators/Specialists):

- What are the best ways for me to stand out as a great candidate in the application process?

- What makes a teaching candidate stand out?

- What do you look for on a resume?

- What does the timing of the hiring process look like? When does your school offer interviews and then make job offers?
